CHALLENGER COMPETITION/PLUS - CLASSIC NAME RETURNS

Famous muscle car gearshift lends its name to tuned Dodge Challenger

Gold jewellery abounds on Hurst Challenger

Hurst, the US muscle car tuner famed for its Competition/Plus manual transmission shifters, has attached the famous moniker to a version of the Dodge Challenger.

Hurst revealed its own top-end conversions for the Dodge Hemi Challenger (pictured) a few months back, but for those who can’t stretch to the $36,450 (£22,500) required on top of the $40,220 (£24,800) for the base factory Challenger SRT8, Hurst will now build you a ‘budget’ Competition/Plus version.

Hurst hasn’t released pricing details or official pictures, but you will be able to get it in any colour you like (unlike the full-blown Hurst models, which are available in black-and-gold or white-and-gold only).

But, like Mr T, it somehow gets away with it

The Hurst Competition/Plus doesn’t get much in the way of performance upgrades, with upgrades limited to a Magnaflow exhaust system, Hurst 20ins alloys, colour-matched leather inserts on the seats and, the signature Competition/Plus short throw shifter with the white ball gearknob.

Of course, the full-blown Hurst Challenger Series 5 SRT8 ‘executive muscle car’ in these pictures is a whole lot more mouth-watering. Instead of ‘just’ 425bhp, that gets 572bhp and 528lb ft courtesy of a Vortech supercharger as well as:

Hurst “HARD-DRIVE®” shifter
Hurst 20” polished forged wheels
HURST Exterior graphics and badges; fenders, grille and rear fascia
HURST Limited Edition sequentially numbered dash badge
BF Goodrich KDW Performance Tires
Magnaflow stainless-steel cat-back exhaust
K&N Air Filter
Eibach Coil-over Adjustable Suspension
Hurst leather interior with gold top-stitching and embroidered logo
Hurst rear spoiler
HURST Gold racing stripes
Matching color car cover with HURST Gold racing stripes
Limited Color: Custom White Pearl with HURST Gold racing stripes
Factory delivery

The matching colour car cover alone surely almost makes the extra £22k worth it…

More info and pictures on the more humble Competition/Plus model as soon as we can get hold of them…

Mmmm...shiny supercharged goodness...

Is that not the textbook muscle car?
